17th November - Seniors Update

The Leicestershire U20s have a trials game organised for Wednesday 24th November 2010 at South Leicester meet 7.00pm. If you have a player you feel should be given an opportunity then please contact Simon Chaperon, Team Manager, with the player's details. 12th November - Seniors Update

Congratulations to Vipers who, after last weekends games, are the only Leicestershire side left in the Midlands Intermediate Cup which now moves on to the Quarter Final stage. Vipers have been drawn away to Market Rasen & Louth.

Similarly Oadby Wyggs and Stoneygate are the only Clubs left in the Quarter Finals of the Midlands Senior Vase and Junior Vase Competitions respectively. Oadby Wyggs will travel to Ashbourne and Stoneygate will be away to Harborne.

The County Vets Cup Final will be contested between Hinckley and South Leicester on the weekend of the 27th./28th. November 2010 and on the spin of the coin by the MLOC Chairman the game will be played at South Leicester.

5th November - Seniors Update

Divisions 1,2,3 & 4 have no games in November giving the opportunity for those Clubs with a backlog of games to get up to date. The Premiership and Conference have only two fixture weekends so likewise they should be able to get any outstanding games sorted. Please remember to let your League Secretary know of any rearranged dates and thereafter the score! 

I have heard nothing from those Clubs that need to pull in outstanding Cup games - can I hear from you please asap.

28th October 2010 - County Cup Bowl Draw

The County Cup and County Bowl draws were done tonight (Wednesday) live on Radio Leicester as follows -

Games due to be played on 6th November 2010. I appreciate that the Clubs still in the various Midlands Competitions will have to rearrange. Most have access to floodlight facilities so midweek games should not be a problem. The next round is not until the 12th. February 2011 and there will be a new draw for both Competitions.

24th October 2010 - Senior Cup Update / U20s County Campaign

Congratulations to Market Bosworth, Market Harborough, Belgrave and Vipers in reaching the 3rd round of the Midlands Intermediate Cup Competition.

Congratulations also to Oadby Wyggs in the Midlands Senior Vase and Stoneygate in the Midland Junior Vase Competitions who have also reached the 3rd round.

As we expected we are now looking at the congestion with the Midlands and LRU Cup Competitions.

The Vets Cup is straight forward after the games last Saturday we have four Semi Finalists and the draw for the Semi Finals to be played on 6th November is Hinckley v Melton and South Leicester v Aylestone St. James

The first round of the County Cup has two games outstanding being Anstey v Leicester Forest and Aylestone St James v Vipers.

With the 2nd round scheduled for 6th November we need to progress the competition with possibly midweek games under lights - possibly at a neutral venue for the Anstey v Forest game.

The second round draw will be done live on the Radio Leicester Rugby Hour around 6.30pm on Wednesday 27th October 2010

The LRU County U20s Committee is meeting tomorrow (Thursday) to determine our strategy for this Campaign. I will be sending out details of Coaching sessions shortly but in the mean time you can let me have details of any players you feel should be considered. Players must have a date of birth after 1st September 1990 (recent amendment to the regulations) and be qualified to play for England. I will need a name, address, e mail if possible, date of birth, club and playing position. Info to Henri Ginvert

11th October 2010 - Leicestershire Leagues / U20s County Campaign

We are about to start our planning for this season's Leicestershire U20s campaign with the target being a Twickenham Final. Further details re the new organisational set up and player nomination will follow shortly. For the first time this Competition will follow through to not only selection for a Midlands side but also an England Counties U20 team. It would be great to see Leicestershire players in an England shirt. One very important piece of news on the U20s is that our LRU representative on the RFU Council, Malcolm Ross, has been appointed the England Counties U20s Team Manager. Malcolm has been a stalwart supporter of U20s rugby and his appointment is both an honour to Leicestershire and Midlands U20 rugby.

Result communication is still not very good - four teams failed to communicate their result and the games have been awarded to the opposition by a 0 - 20 score line.

11th September 2010 - Leicestershire Leagues

First weekend of a new Leicestershire Leagues Season. We start with the usual reminder to get your Team Managers / Captains to communicate their results to the appropriate League Secretary. If you contact me direct you still need to tell your League Secretary - LRU will not issue them with crystal balls! Two Clubs still have not advised their result and the opposition have been awarded a 20 - 0 win.

5th September 2010 - County Cup Draw

24 Clubs have entered the County Cup - the format remains as it was last season.

Not the best but with free dates at a premium we will need Club Fixture Secs to be at their innovative best as they were last year.

The First round Draw with games to be played on 16th October 2010 is

• Birstall  v  Lutterworth

• Sileby Town  v  Aylestone Athletic

• Shepshed  v  Old Newtonians 

• Aylestonians  v  Stoneygate

The eight winning teams will join the eight seeded Clubs in the Second round Draw which we hope will be done live on Radio Leicester.

The eight losing sides will compete for the Bowl on the 6th. November 2010.

The Second Round is scheduled for 6th. November 2010
For your Fixture Card the Quarter Finals are scheduled for 12th. February 2011 and the Semi Finals 26th. February 2011.

27th August 2010 - Competition Update

As agreed at the last Competitions Meeting we will continue the format of last Season with a few tweaks in the later stages of the Bowl and Shield Competition.

The proposal is that the eight seeded Group A teams which will join the 2nd round of the Competition are:

South Leicester, Syston, Market Bosworth, Coalville, Melton, Belgrave, Loughborough Town, Market Harborough

The 15 Group B entrants in the First round of the Competition are:

Old Newtonians, Lutterworth, Oadby Wyggs, Stoneygate, Aylestone Athletic, Shepshed, Burbage, Aylestonians, Oakham, Anstey, Birstall, Aylestone St. James, Vipers, Leicester Forest and Sileby Town.

The losing sides in the First round will then compete for the Bowl and the 4 losing sides in the Bowl will compete for the Shield.

The First Round draw will take place on the 4th.September and hopefully we can organise the 2nd. Round draw on Radio Leicester as we did last year.

10th August 2010 - County Cup Competition Details

This Season the County Cup Competitions will be organised by Simon Chaperon - the County Colts Cup will be organised by Laurence Fenton. We are inviting entries for the LRU County Vets Competition as well as the 2nd. XV County Cup. All entries need to be received by close of play on Sunday 22nd. August 2010. Match dates will be confirmed when we know the number of Clubs entered. There is an outstanding game to be played between South Leicester Vets and Leicester Thursday Vets postponed from the Day of Rugby.

Subject to LRU Management approval we hope to establish a new LRU National level 2nd. XV Cup involving a round robin Competition between Lions, Hinckley and Loughborough Students (possibly a Tigers side). Details still to be thrashed out but it could involve their existing fixtures.

Entries to the LRU Spring Cup will once again be by the LRU President's invitation only.

As agreed at the Clubs Competitions Meeting the County Cup Competition will keep the same format as last Season with the County Bowl and Shield Competitions flowing from the losing teams. Only two Clubs did not wish to enter the Competition last Season - it will be easier for us to assume that you wish to enter again this Season unless you let me know by the 22nd. August. We hope that the Final will once again be at the Tigers Ground.
